ENGLISH CONVERSATION CAF? COURSE
Students will participate in social conversations to gain confidence and fluency. Students will develop their ability to give detailed information, express and quantify opinions and feelings, and express reservations, approval, and disapproval in one-one-one and in small groups.
Classes are split into Pre Intermediate and Intermediate Levels, and you will have the opportunity to improve your speaking skills. Classes will focus on the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) speaking competencies, Interacting with Others, Giving Instructions, Getting Things Done, and Sharing Information.

WHAT TO EXPECT
The Conversation Caf? is scheduled each month for students on a first come first served basis. You are scheduled for two classes each week, two hours duration each. You will be guided through a variety of discussion topics by your certified English language instructor. Speaking exercises from various English Assessment Tests will be incorporated throughout to help you become familiar with these.
Students will work in pairs and small groups to complete a variety of speaking tasks. Class sizes are limited to enable active participation and the opportunity to engage in dialogue.
The first weekly lesson will focus on listening and speaking skills in a social context. Lessons will incorporate print, audio, and visual media to engage learners and provoke discussion. The second lesson will focus on developing the speaking skills necessary succeed in oral examinations. Students will practice formulating responses to a variety of questions and topics they may encounter. Lessons will also provide students with strategies they can implement during examinations.

Topical discussions will focus on real world situations including work and career studies. Through conversation, you will even have the opportunity to develop your job interview technique and other skills that will help in your career goals.
Learning with team members and guided by your instructor, you will increase your language fluency as you improve on transferable skills.

Free English Classes are offered to Anderson College students for a trial period during winter of 2021.
The current class schedule is Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday, at either 11am ? 1pm or 1pm ? 3pm, and the next cycle begins in February. You must attend the Introductory Class prior to that.
STEPS TO GET STARTED
First, we need to know who you are. Go to https://andersoncollege.com/student-life/english-course-esl/ and provide your personal details, including your contact information.
We will then contact you to invite you for the Introductory English Class, where you will do a short Speaking Assessment, and find out more information about the classes.
?You will receive a Speaking Report, and a class schedule request form, which includes available schedules including day and time, start date, and duration of the class(es). You will then fill the form to choose and submit your preferred scheduling information.
You will then receive an email confirming your schedule, as well as your Microsoft Teams class link

Q. Related to step 1, how do I find out more or register for the introductory English classes? A. Go to https://andersoncollege.com/student-life/english-course-esl/, fill in the form, and we will reply back with information for our Introductory English Class which will provide all of the details.
Q. How do I get started? A. We will schedule you for An Introductory English Class where we can meet you and do a speaking assessment. If you have emailed us at esl@andersoncollege.com, you will receive an invitation for the Introductory Class on Microsoft Teams. Upon completion of your Introductory Class, you will be moved forward for scheduling into your regular classes. If you have not emailed us, please refer to step 1.
Q. When do classes start? A. Introductory Classes are ongoing, and have started for students who have sent requests.
Upon completion of The Introductory Class, your regular schedule for English Language classes will begin in January 2021, and there will be continuous intakes throughout the winter. If you have not registered, please refer to step 1.
Q. When will classes finish? How long will the classes take? A. Classes are offered continuously and scheduled in cycles. Depending on your needs and availability, some students may come for one class per week for one cycle , others may complete a number of classes per week for multiple cycles. A cycle is a period of time you are scheduled in, it is ok if you need to attend multiple cycles. Please stay tuned for more details on the length of each cycle and how to register for more than one cycle.
Q. Do you have other times available, can you change the time of your classes? A. At present, the classes are from 11 am ? 1p and 1 pm ? 3 pm. We will update of any changes in the new year. Note, each of the two classes per day will offer the same material, you only need to attend one, but you are welcome to request to attend both.
Q. I am a graduate of Anderson College, can I participate in this class? A. Yes. You received our free trial offer email, so you are welcome to join the English Classes. However, limited seats are available for all, please follow the steps above, we will schedule all students on a first come first serve basis.
Q. Do I receive a diploma for taking English? A. No, this is not a diploma or high school completion program. However, if you fulfill the attendance requirement, you will receive a certificate for each level as determined by your instructor. Please stay tuned for more details in 2021
Q. Where are the classes? A. Classes are online in Microsoft Teams.
Q. Which class is best to prepare for IELTS? A. Any English class will help with your communication skills.
We will offer IELTS Preparation in 2021, however there is a fee for complete preparation programs. Details will be available in 2021.
Q. How much homework will I have? A. The course is for your own personal improvement and development. You will receive assignments to improve your skills, and you should get into the habit of practicing every day.
Q. I am taking English classes somewhere else, should I quit those to take these classes? A. No, do not quit your studies elsewhere. We may have a class that compliments your current English studies that may help you. Attend an Introductory English Class to see how we may help.
Q. What are the qualifications of your instructors? A. Instructors are certified for Teaching English as a Second Language in Canada (TESL Canada)
